Mary Waya Netball Foundation

The Mary Waya Netball Foundation – our vision is to empower the girl child through netball coaching & life skills training.

Mary Waya Netball Foundation is a is a non-profit sports academy in Malawi. It works to provide a platform for young female athletes who aspire to be professional netball players. The Foundation was established by International netball player and coach Mary Waya, who among other things, pioneered Malawian netball on the international scene.
The Foundation supports grassroots netball as well as professional netball. It offers vulnerable and often poor girls a chance to use sport as a tool to build friendships, learn new skills and develop teamwork. Through the academy, some girls are supported in their development of netball skills as well as through counselling and educational support. Tackling issues such as underage marriages, initiation practices and the importance of school.

The Foundation not only offers netball skills training but also the ‘MoJo’ that comes from life skills, coaching and community engagement programmes such as; food parcels, toiletries, stationery parcels and sporting equipment.

Future players & stronger communities
The Foundation supports players to develop them as future netball stars by improving netball skills, assisting with education and thereby bridging the gap between urban and rural schools’ standard of netball.

“I want to use netball to create role models that can go back into their communities and motivate others to be more confident women in their everyday lives.”

MWNF provides girls with a range of life skills such as communication, public speaking, self-confidence, motivation, goal setting and leadership to name a few. Programmes run monthly at nominated schools and are funded by public donations.

You can help us support MWNF with educational material!
You can help The Women’s Sports Network translate NETBALLMoJo into to Chichewa and have it modified culturally and practically for girls in Malawi. £5,000 will modify NETBALLMoJo, re-shoot some of the images and print/deliver 1000 copies to those communities to encourage girls into netball, give them greater confidence in their bodies through netball, help engage with community elders and potentially attract new sponsors.

Please donate to the MWNF & give her a High5!
