The Women's Sports Network (WSNet) is a not for profit community promoting issues/opportunities around WomenSport & SportsWomen by supporting others in commercial/NFP/educational/Charityorganisation to develop their 'position' in line with our own values/beliefs. We have three key areas of operation:
- Get ACTIVE - 20,000 locations for women to get ACTIVE with @ACTIVEMapX.
- SPORTSReports - @Twing_IT the world's only dedicated women's sports reporting channel - supported by #WonderWall. Europe & Australia coverage.
- Operational - lobbying, empowerment & issues development through publishing, TV, employment, greater access and generally via the use of digital media.
An unfunded group of volunteers - trying to raise the profile of WomenSport & SportsWomen - we run a number of free services including @Twing_IT - women's SportsReports on Twitter, #WonderWall - a free, online, real-time Hello-style sports mag and ACTIVEMapX - thousands of places for millions of women to get more ACTIVE. Three SM channels - approaching 30,000 followers.
In 2012 The Women's Sports Network gave focus, direction and exposure to the potential offered by women's sport as a powerful motivator for women, a community driver and a rich vein for healthy exercise/wellbeing & confidence building through the 'Women's Sporting Calendar 2012' and the launch of the WSNet website on International Women's Day 2012.
In 2013 we started to establish 'alternative digital channels' to improve the flow of sport, wellbeing and 'active' information to a wider local, national and international audience. Launching @Twing_IT & @ACTIVEMapX - Exciting alternatives to TV, computer games and reality shows! We have developed a range of partners who share the passion to get young girls more interested in sport and raise the profile of many of our world-class sportswomen by raising them up as role models and better valuing them in a commercial world.
In 2014 we have three key areas of operation:
Support & Lobbying – WSNet supports a range of causes, events & issues around WomenSport & SportsWomen. We launch HerSPORTSJob (sports recruitment) a TV Platform for promoting WomenSport on TV & a novel reporting service inconjunction with the Commonwealth Games this summer. Along with WomensSportsNews – a consolidation of news and opinion about women’s sport.
NewsChannels - WSNet operates a series NewsChannels for sports reports - providing 24hr live updates on International & UK stories ranging from the Olympics/International matches through national competitions via National schools to local county/state events. All profiling SportsHeroines as role models for girls and women. We have just started a fledgling Australian channel Twing_AUS. Twing_IT draws on a range of newsources and we have a small number of 'reporters' who tweet onto one consolidated channel - which is then aggregated in real time into a browser (#WonderWall) which presents news stories, pictures twitter @handles and reports – all in a compact & consentient 'newsletter' type format
Get ACTIVE – we provide info access and promotion to thousands of women in the UK Free via @ACTIVEMapX - a local map packed with thousands of events/classes for women to get ACTIVE.
We have no budget or government support and constantly look for novel ways to promote what we do - ideally working with partners. This is reflected in our new #ShowUP programme (orginally commissioned by The Women's Sports Trust who we continue to support as Media partner) where we support them, or their organisations, where they have similar, altruistic, views/values to us. We also look at ways to monetise and spin off commercial opportunities for our partners.
