Shining a light on women’s role in sport by @Adrianne_Hill @ChronandEcho

WomenSportsWeek - What's happening at the 'grass roots' - Adrianne Hill, Northamptonshire Chronicle & Echo

For Women's Sports Week Adrianne Hill begins a weekly review of WomenSport at the grass roots.

The past few years has seen a massive increase in media attention towards women in sport and everything that they achieve. However most, if not all, of the sports section still does not reflect the achievements of these amazing female athletes who are breaking down the barriers and taking the gold. Times are changing and I’m extremely excited to be introducing this weekly column, that will shine a light on the local gems who are out there everyday fulfilling their dreams and encouraging women to take up an activity or sport. Having been a sports journalist for more than six years working locally, nationally and internationally, it’s been an honour to see the positive effects sport and fitness have played in people’s lives.

It brings people together, encourages new friendships and keeps the body ticking over quite nicely. It’s been even more of an honour to meet some inspiring women over the past few years since switching my focus to uncovering the stories and highlights of the women who make sport happen both locally and on the world stage. These ladies are everywhere; in the gym, at your local sports club, hammering the pavements on course for a new personal best and in your own homes.
